Maratha Kranti Morcha holds protest march on JM road in Pune, traffic diverted to parallel roads
The march began at the Sambhaji statue in Deccan at 10.30 am and culminated at the Shivaji statue in Shivajinagar, passing via Jangli Maharaj road, Bal Gandharva chowk and the PMC building.
Pune The Maratha Kranti Morcha, Pune district, held a protest March on Sunday in the city demanding the dissolution of cases filed against members of the Maratha community during their protests for reservations held last week across the state.
The march began at the Sambhaji statue in Deccan at 10.30 am and culminated at the Shivaji statue in Shivajinagar, passing via Jangli Maharaj road, Bal Gandharva chowk and the PMC building. Shouts of ‘Ek Maratha, Lakh Maratha’ rang through the air as a few hundred protestors walked peacefully through the city.
Addressing the crowd, Pravin Gaikwad, convenor, Maratha Kranti Morcha, Pune district, said, “During the protests for reservations across Maharashtra, there were several cases registered against Maratha youths.Initially, we put forward our demands in a silent way, but because of the government's negligence the protests turned violent.It is the government’s responsibility to dissolve all cases against Maratha youth during protest.”
Traffic police implemented a ‘no traffic’ rule on the march route during the protest with traffic being diverted to parallel roads to avoid traffic jams.
