Instead of running the Metro from main gate of the Pune railway station, Maha-Metro is now thinking to run it from Raja Bahadur Mill road.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) is planning to make a slight change in the 15 km Vanaz to Ramwadi route near the Pune railway station. Instead of a Metro station near the main gate of the Pune railway station, it has now proposed a station near platform 6 on the Raja Bahadur Mill road.

Maha-Metro is planning to erect the Metro station near Hotel Sheraton, which was earlier known as Le Meridian. The railways foot over-bridge is already there. Metro and railway, both are planning to give the connectivity of this bridge to the Metro station, which will give commuters direct access to the Metro station or railway station.

On the request of the railway officers, Maha-Metro is planning to make these changes, which is also cost effective and will help carry out the work faster.

Maha-Metro’s officer Ramnath Subramanium confirmed these changes to Hindustan Times and said that the Metro is working on this proposal suggested by the railways.

He said that as per the Detailed Project Report, the Metro corridor is passing from the front of the Pune railway station main gate. However, this road is congested, due to the presence of the MSRTC and PMPML bus stops, besides the main railway station. Carrying out work here would also be very difficult, said the official.

The Raja Bahadur Mill road is parallel to the existing Metro corridor. As this suggestion was good and the road is wide enough, Maha-Metro is considering this proposal, said Metro officials.

The Metro’s interchange is at Shivajingar godown. The Metro work between Vanaz and Shivajingar godown has already started. Maha-Metro has not floated any tender for the stretch between Shivajingar godown and Ramwadi.

Considering this, it is possible to make this change and the Metro is seriously thinking about it, said a Metro official. He said that Maha-Metro’s managing director Brijesh Dixit will take the final call on it after discussing with the authorities concerned.
