NDA’s subedar major Rajeev Kumar Rai dies of heart attack

During the parade practice, a routine activity in the academy, Rai was motivating the cadets to prepare them for the passing out parade when he suddenly suffered a severe pain in his chest.

Rajeev Kumar Rai, subedar major (honorary lieutenant), suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting the parade practice at National Defence Academy (NDA) Drill Square on Wednesday.

During the parade practice, a routine activity in the academy, Rai was motivating the cadets to prepare them for the passing out parade when he suddenly suffered a severe pain in his chest.

He was advised by the adjutant to relax and proceed to the Military Hospital for a check-up. He walked out of the parade ground all by himself and was taken to the Military Hospital, Khadakwasla. After a while, he lost consciousness and could not be revived which was attributed to a fatal heart attack.

A wreath laying ceremony in honour of the departed soul was conducted at the AFMC, Pune, on Thursday evening, and after that the mortal remains were flown to his native place in Khagaria district of Bihar.

Rai hailed to the 15th Battalion of the Mahar Regiment. He was posted to the National Defence Academy as the drill subedar major since October 2014.
