One dead another injured as truck collides with bike in Pune

In a helmetless riding accident, a 26-year-old motorcyclist died and his pillion rider suffered serious injuries after the bike collided head on with a speeding truck on Katraj-Kondhwa road at 11.30 am on Thursday.

According to the police, the duo was hit by the truck near Adistone Marble office on Katraj-Kondhwa road. The victim has been identified as Ram Mane. He was on his way to work when the accident took place. The pillion rider, identified as Baban Mahadeo Ingale (26), a resident of Katraj, sustained serious head injuries. Ingale has been admitted to Bharati hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Police sub-inspector Vishnu Wadkar and his team arrested the truck driver identified as Rajesh Paswan (37), a resident of Samruddhinagar in Bihar, on charges of rash and negligent driving.

Kondhwa residents forum, a civic watch group has demanded decongestion of the road by removing hawkers, installation of more closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and deployment of additional traffic personnel to curb the rise of such incidents.

“The PMC traffic department must coordinate with the Pune traffic branch in order to resolve the traffic mess at Katraj-Kondhwa road. The stretch needs to be monitored extensively by the civic body,”said Kumar Shinde, an office bearer, Kondhwa citizens forum.

Cop scanner on traffic violators, PCMC police book 3,073 people in 8 days

In a major crackdown on traffic-rule violators, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have taken action against 3,073 traffic violators under its jurisdiction in during the past eight days.

Satish Patil, assistant commissioner of police, who was also incharge of the drive said, “The action was taken after strict directives from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) chief, K Padmanabhan. He has asked the police to act against errant riders who are endangering the lives of the citizens.”

According to Patil, a total of 6,782 vehicles were checked by the police, out of which action was taken against 3,073 traffic violators.

According to the police, action was taken against those who were riding triple seat, not carrying valid driving licenses, vehicle papers, helmetless riders, signal jumping, indulging in rash and negligent driving, sporting fancy number plates, and driving vehicles without number plates.

Patil further said, “The action has received a good response from the citizens. We will continue to take road safety drives to make the PCMC area safe. The initiative has also received strong backing from all stakeholders.”
