Sonali Gavhane, PCMC education committee chairman, informed that the key objective of the committee is to enhance the quality of education which will benefit the overall development of the students. “After we attended a study tour in Delhi in January, 2019, we have decided to revamp our education methodology based on the Delhi model,” said Gavhane.

“The semi-English medium preschool will start from the upcoming education year,” added Gavhane.

Gavhane said, “The civic-run schools are facing issues like student dropouts, as there is a high competition from private schools. So we have decided to introduce a semi-English pattern in 30 schools in the first phase.”

According to civic officers, under the semi-English medium school model, three subjects will be taught to students in the English language (maths, science and English). Other subjects like history, social science and geography will be taught in the Marathi language.

Jyotsna Shinde, PCMC education officer, said, “Now, students are taught maths and science in Marathi language and they are learning some terminologies in the English language like addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.”
