Decongesting Pune: Two city chiefs and the plan for freedom on city roads

Signal synchronisation, roads riddled with potholes, illegal parking, encroachments on footpaths and roads, traffic bottlenecks and other traffic-related issues were the top priority subjects of discussion between K Venkatesham, Pune police commissioner and Saurabh Rao, PMC commissioner during a coordination meeting held at the police commissionerate on Saturday morning.

Rao in his address gave a complete overview of the developmental works being carried and promised full support to the initiatives of the new police commissioner.
Venkatesham said that the aim of the police was to decongest the city and make Pune a safe place for the citizens. The new commissioner has been taking an active interest in decongesting the city and according to his direction, surprise checks and drives are being carried across the city to discipline the errant violators. The police will soon begin its “ Zero Tolerance Drive against Traffic rule violators ” from Rakshabandhan Day in 66 areas earmarked under the 22 traffic divisions of the city police.
