Pune Municipal Corporation intensifies ban on plastic
The civic body in the last two months have confiscated 2,000 kilogrammes of plastic waste from various offenders thus generating a revenue of ₹2.5 lakh through fines
Little over a month left for the plastic ban implemention rule to complete one year on June 23, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified the plastic ban enforcement activities in the city.

The civic body in the last two months have confiscated 2,000 kilogrammes of plastic waste from various offenders thus generating a revenue of ₹2.5 lakh through fines.
The government of Maharashtra declared a ban on plastics on March 23 last year, however, the enforcement of the ban started from June 23.
Dnyaneshwar Molak, chief of solid waste management department in the PMC said, “ In the last two months before March, the action taken against plastic ban violators had slowed down. However, we are back to strict enforcement of the plastic ban now.”
Senior PMC officials in the know-how said that action could be taken against offenders as the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections had come into effect on March 10 and post that we had no interference from any political outfit when the civic staff took action against the offenders in the city.
The civic body officials said that action will be taken against plastic ban violators in the city and fines would be imposed on them.
The civic body has confiscated 46,605 kilogrammes of plastic and has generated Rs 35,38,140 as fine from June 23, 2018 to January 2019.
The state government had been successful in banning the sale of thermocol, plastic bags in shops and has closed plastic bags manufacturing units. However, a number of banned items such as plastic bags of less than 10 microns, cutlery and disposable cups and plates are back in shops and are being used widely.
