Pune police arrest car thief, crack eight cases
According to the police, Deshmukh used to allegedly break the car window with a slingshot before opening the locks and stealing the car
With the arrest of a man on Monday, the Pune police solved eight cases of car thefts. The arrested man was identified as Arun Baburao Deshmukh, 54, a resident of Kalyannagar area of Asra chowk area of Jule in Solapur.
According to the police, Deshmukh used to allegedly break the car window with a slingshot before opening the locks and stealing the car.
Two officials of Chatuhshrungi police station Dnyaneshwar Muley and Tejas Chopade received a tip-off that the suspect, who was involved in a car theft at a restaurant in Baner last month, was seen in Aundh. The police arrested him sitting inside a white Alto car near Midipoint hospital in Aundh.
The police have found his involvement in eight car theft cases registered at Chatuhshrungi police station.
The police recovered 53 grammes gold, one Alto car registered in his name in Solapur, a tool he allegedly used to break car window glass, two steel rulers and an iron hook from his possession. The worth of the recovered things is estimated to be Rs 2,89,000, according to a statement issued by senior inspector Bhaskar Jadhav of Chatuhshrungi police station. Assistant police inspector Sandesh Kenjale is investigating the case. Deshmukh was remanded to police custody by a local court.
