Grahak Peth, a landmark store in Pune, was robbed between the non-working hours on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Close to Rs 3.5 lakh in cash, gold-plated coins and a few documents were stolen from the department store located along Tilak road in Sadashiv peth area of Pune.

The burglary came to light when the shop was opened for business on Thursday morning around 9 am, according to Suryakant Pathak, managing director of Grahak Peth.

“We called the police. They checked everything and registered a case. They brought in a dog squad as well,” said Pathak.

A case in the matter was registered at the Khadak police station under Sections 454 (trespassing), 457 (trespassing at night) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police sub-inspector Sanjay Gaikwad of the Khadak police station is investigating the case.

Grahak Peth is known for the innovative Ganpati statues they make during the 10-day annual Ganesh festival.
