The deadline of admissions under Right to Education was extended twice by the state education department as fewer numbers of seats were confirmed
On the last day of admissions under Right to Education (RTE) Act on Friday, under the first lottery, 3,585 seats are still vacant in Pune district. While in the state 20,835 seats are vacant.
The deadline of admissions under Right to Education was extended twice by the state education department as fewer numbers of seats were confirmed. Earlier the deadline was April 30 which was extended to May 4 and later to May 10.
As of now, only 46,871 admissions have been confirmed in the state out of total 67,706 selections in the first lottery which was declared on April 8, 2019.
Sunil Chauhan, director of primary education had extended the date for admissions under the Right to education Act twice, as the verification process of documents submitted by the students was taking time.
Parents had complained about the Right to Education verification officers for unnecessarily harassing them about the documents during the verification process.
Mukund Kirdat, an education activist, said, “At least 20,000 Right to Education seats are vacant in the state in the first lottery and is a matter of great concern. Even the government officials are not serious about the issue.”
“The high court in 2014 had said that ‘redressal cells’ should be formed to address the issues and grievances faced by the parents. But till now no such cell has been formed,” Kirdat said.
