Three construction workers die in Pune after crane plummets to ground

The project is a seven-floor building with 65 apartments.It is being constructed by a company called Shruti Buildcon, also located in Moshi.

Three construction workers were killed after a crane, which they were using to ascend an under construction building at a construction site in Dudulgaon area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, fell.

The three deceased workers were identified as Pandurang Basappa Chavan, 35; Bhagwan Gaikwad, 29; and Amar Rathod, 28, according to Khanderao Khaire,senior police inspector of Dighi police station. The three lived in the labour camp on the construction site. They were rushed to Sant Dyaneshwar hospital in Bhosari Gaonthan.

“They were using the crane to ascend the under construction building. The rope of the crane broke and they fell. Two of them died on the spot and one succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” said senior PI Khaire.

The three were working on a site called Radhe Regal Residency in Dudulgaon, located in Moshi, on the banks of Indrayani river. The project is a seven-floor building with 65 apartments.It is being constructed by a company called Shruti Buildcon, also located in Moshi. The owner of the company was established only as Patel.

The workers were not provided with safety belts or helmets and the safety net around the building was also absent, according to the police.

The bodies of the three deceased workers were sent to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital in Pimpri for post mortem. The death of the workers was recorded as accidental deaths at Dighi police station. The police are investigating the case further.
