Three detained for Pradhikaran theft worth around Rs 1 crore

Among the three is the security guard of the house who disappeared on the day the theft came to light.

Three men were held for stealing cash and belongings, worth nearly Rs 1 crore, from a house in Pradhikaran in Nigdi. The three were detained at a railway station in Madhya Pradesh, according to Shankar Awtade, police inspector (crime) of Nigdii police station, who is investigating the case.

“They have not yet reached Pune. The three were found in Madhya Pradesh and are being brought to Pune. We will know more when they reach,” said PI Awtade.

Among the three is the security guard of the house who disappeared on the day the theft came to light. The guard identified as Govind Kalu Periyar, a native of Kalali in Lamki region of Nepal, was residing in Pune.

Periyar, who knew when the family members were not in the house, took help of two others and broke open the main door as well as the bedroom door. The theft was reported from two flats in the building. The two managed to flee with gold, silver and diamond jewellery, mobile phones, laptop and cash from the houses.

The total worth of the stolen belongings was estimated to be around Rs 97,20,000. Police are on the lookout for the two other accused.

A case under Sections 457 (trespassing in night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Nigdi police station against Periyar and one other person.
