Two killed and two injured in hit-and-run along Mumbai-Pune expressway

Two men were killed and two others were severely injured after being hit by a pick-up van along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Tuesday night.
The deceased men were identified as Abhijeet Mahadev Awale and Santosh Dattatray Devkate, according to the police. The two injured were identified as Vikas Dhere and Nisar. They were rushed to a hospital in Nigdi area of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
The four men were changing the rear tyre of the truck they were travelling in Baur village in Mawal at 11pm. A pick-up van arrived from the direction of Mumbai and hit them. The speeding van did not stop at the spot and fled. The onlookers noted the number of the van and submitted it to the police. Identified as Madanlal, the driver of the pick-up van was later arrested by Kamshhet police.
A case under Sections 304(a) (causing death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mausing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with Section 184, 134/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act was registered against the driver of the pick-up at Kamshet police station.
The case was registered by assistant sub inspector SS Magte while police inspector IS Patil is investigating the case.
This is the second such case in the past three days. On Monday night, a man, who was helping the driver of his car fix a flat tyre, was killed after they were hit by an on-coming tempo in Devale village along the expressway.
