18-yr-old girl commits suicide due to financial constraints

An 18-year-old girl ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Jaswant Nagar on Chandigarh Road on Sunday.

An 18-year-old girl ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Jaswant Nagar on Chandigarh Road on Sunday.

The deceased, Palak Pruthi, reportedly left a suicide note in which she mentioned that she was taking the extreme step because she couldn't get admitted to a medical college due to financial constraints.

Palak, whose father Narinder Pruthi works with the ICICI Bank, had secured 88% marks in Class 12. The family noticed Palak's body at around 5pm, following which Division No. 7 police were informed.

The family said Palak was mentally stressed as they could not arrange money to get her admitted to a medical college. Assistant sub-inpector Rajinder Singh said proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been initiated.
