Battalion commandant Varun Partap said, “The black bag containing the ammunition was found hidden near the boundary wall of the BSF building.”

He added, “The recovery was made during a weed-out operation we are carrying out in the area.”

He said, “All the authorities concerned, including the Khemkaran police, have been informed in this regard.”

On the complaint of the commandant, the Khemkaran police have booked unidentified persons for allegedly hiding the bag.

Station house officer (SHO) Manjinder Singh said, “A case under various sections of the Arms Act and the Explosives Act has been registered against some unidentified persons at Khemkaran police station.”

“The bag appears quite old. Further investigations are on,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday evening, the Gurdaspur district police went into a tizzy after receiving information that an armed man, in army fatigue, was spotted behaving in a suspicious manner near Alia Chak village under Dinanagar police station. They had launched a combing operation, but failed to nab the suspect.
