Accused Harvinder Singh was arrested for murdering his father Bageecha Singh on the intervening night of July 16-17 by shooting him with a rifle.

SHO of Kotfatta police station, Paramjit Singh Doad, said the accused had been booked on the basis of a complaint by Boota Singh, the brother of the deceased. He said the accused had some issues with his father due to which he shot him dead and dumped his body in a canal on the Gidderbaha - Malout road. The accused then lodged his father's missing complaint.

Harvinder Singh confessed his crime in front of the former sarpanch of the village who reported the matter to the police who have recovered the rifle used in the crime.
