4 killed, 9 hurt as car plunges into gorge in Mandi district

Four people were killed and nine were injured after a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) plunged into a gorge in Bagrathanch area of Seraj segment, here on Saturday night.

Police said the vehicle’s occupants were going to a wedding and were part of the marriage party.

On the way, people in other vehicles saw the car roll down a gorge, and rushed to save the occupants.

However, four passengers were killed on the spot. They have been identified as Lalit Kumar, up-pradhan of Bagrathach gram panchayat, Diwan Chand, Padma Devi and Ganga Devi, all residents of Kandhidhar area of Gohar sub-division. The injured were rushed to the health centres at Ani and Janjehali area.

Thunag area tehsildar Vidyadhar Negi provided Rs 15,000 ex-gratia amount to the deceased victims’ families.

A case has been registered.
