5 booked for man's suicide; wife held

The city police have arrested a woman Sati who along with four others has been booked on charge of abetment to suicide of her husband Bikramjit Singh (22) of Guru Ki Wadali, Chheharta.

The city police have arrested a woman Sati who along with four others has been booked on charge of abetment to suicide of her husband Bikramjit Singh (22) of Guru Ki Wadali, Chheharta.

A case was registered against the five accused under Sections 306 and 201 of the IPC at Civil Lines police station on a complaint of Amarjit Kaur, the mother of the deceased.

In her police complaint, Amarjit Kaur alleged that Bikramjit had in 2008 married Sati, who was already married and had four children. She added that an altercation took place between her son and the accused following which her son committed suicide by hanging on April 28.

The complainant said the accused cremated the body without waiting for them so as to destroy all proofs. ASI Satpal Singh, incharge of Faizpura police post, said that investigations were on.

"The couple had a son and a daughter from this marriage. The accused had four children from her previous marriage," he said. The ASI maintained that differences between the accused and the deceased led to tension in the family, which allegedly forced Bikramjit to commit suicide.
