5 killed, 6 injured in bus-car collision at Muktsar

Five people were killed and six others injured in an accident on the bypass near the TMH resort here.
The accident took place on Wednesday afternoon when a bus of the Punbus (PB30H 9948), on way from Muktsar to Ambala, got involved in a collision with a cruiser car (PB30G 9572), carrying 11 passengers, who were travelling to Khudiya Gulab Singh near Malout to attend a ‘bhog’ ceremony. The driver of the bus fled from the spot and has been absconding.
The deceased have been identified as cruiser car driver Rana, 35, Surjeet Singh, 80, Bakhtawar Singh, 55, Mukhtiyar Singh, 60, and a ten-year old boy Satnam Singh. All the deceased and the injured belonged to Udekaral village of Muktsar.
Cruiser driver Rana allegedly lost control of the vehicle while trying to overtake a Zen car and collided with the bus coming from the other side. Two cruiser car passengers died on the spot while three succumbed to injuries in a hospital. Six other occupants of the car were severely injured in the accident.
Station house officer, Muktsar, Perivinkle Grewal, said, “We have booked the driver of the bus under section 304A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code.”
