5 killed as MUV rolls down gorge in Kullu

As many as five people were killed and two were injured after when the multi-utility van they were travelling in caught fire after falling into a 400 feet deep gorge at Jokhunala near Kullu town on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Pradeep Kumar, Mohinder Kumar, Ishra Devi, Hiteshwar Kumar and Bhawani Singh, while the injured are driver Devinder Thakur and Usha Devi, who were rushed to the Kullu regional hospital, from where a critically injured Devinder was referred to Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

Police said the victims were on their way from Peej village to Kullu town to support a panchayat poll aspirant. A case has been registered and investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the accident.
