The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to go for its maiden political convention during the Hola Mohalla celebrations at Anandpur Sahib from March 15 onwards.
Not only this, AAP is also planning to hold a big rally on the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on March 23. It will hold another political rally on Baisakhi celebrations later in April.
Besides national bigwigs of the party, AAP founder and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to address the convention.
AAP's new venture of holding political rally on the occasion of Hola Mohalla before the parliamentary elections would be a challenge for the SAD-BJP government and the Congress as well, as the party has received tremendous response in its membership drive in the past two months.
The rally will show the strength and base of AAP for the first time in the Punjab where power has remained between two major parties.
"The land of Anandpur Sahib holds great importance from both historical and religious point of view and there is no better place to reach maximum people with policies and agendas of AAP for the upcoming lok Sabha elections", said Sumail Singh Sidhu, AAP's convener of the state campaign committee.
Sidhu, who was in the city on Saturday for formal launch of party's campaign in the Patiala constituency, said there were no doubts that people were spontaneously coming to support AAP across the state but the purpose of holding political rally at Anandpur Sahib was to channelise undercurrent and anger of people against the state and centre government for their anti-people policies.
"Due to lack of organisational support in Punjab, we are left with very little time to publicise our agenda among the electoral and these rallies would help to take our voices to maximum number of people", he said.
State's AAP unit have started making arrangements. A preparatory committee will be constituted in the coming week to oversee the proceeding for the big event. All units have been informed to come for the rally from their respective areas.
"Though we have yet to send invitations but AAP's founder Arvind Kejriwal would hopefully attend the political rally besides Yogendra Yadav and Manish Sisodia among the list of invitees", Sidhu said.
AAP launches formal campaign in Patiala
AAP launched a formal campaign for the parliamentary elections in Patiala.
Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, AAP candidate from Patiala, said the local MP and minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur had failed miserably in taking up serious issues including that of the Ghaggar river, which is also known as 'river of sorrow'.
"How can an MP, whose residence is known as Moti Mahal, understand issues of common man", he said adding that: "It is a fight of political ideologies than of political parties and leaders".
