'Admn to keep close watch on candidates' expenses'

District election officer and deputy commissioner J Ganesan on Friday held a meeting with representatives of political parties regarding the election expenditure monitoring mechanism.

He said that the administration would keep a close watch on the election expense of the candidate. He said that bank authorities would send details of daily transactions from candidates' accounts to his office.

No candidate can do transaction of more than Rs 1 lakh from any bank or post office in a day. He said that there was complete ban on wall-writings and banners. For any rally or meeting, all political parties have to get permission from the competent authority.

If any person found using the flag, banner, loud speaker for the campaign of any party on his vehicle without candidate's written consent, it will be punishable under section 171 H of the IPC.
