The local leaders seem to have been taking full advantage of the communication gap between the companies hired for preparing Aadhaar Card and the district administration by holding camps to issue Aadhaar cards in various localities to woo voters that too without the knowledge of district administration.
On Sunday, an Aadhaar card camp was held at Baba Banda Bahadur Gurudwara, LIG flats near Samrala Chowk, allegedly initiated by local leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The whole process of preparation of cards was held in the presence of SAD workers.
It is pertinent to mention here that local office of SAD was also at stone’s throw from the place where the camp was held.
As the model code of conduct has been imposed, such camps can be organised at government premises only, and that too after prior knowledge of the district administration.
When asked, deputy commissioner-cum-district electoral officer Rajat Agarwal said he is unaware about the camp and would investigate into the matter.
Agarwal said, “Apart from the district administration, other companies hired by the Centre government have been working in the city. The companies do not bother to inform the district administration before holding a camp. As a result, at times both of the teams end up holding camps in the same area.”
The deputy commissioner further added that he has already informed the department about the problem.
