Amritsar on edge amid protest as little headway in Hindu leader’s murder

Punjab director general of police (DGP), law and order, HS Dhillon met Sharma’s family on Tuesday night. The police did not confirm if the photos of suspects being shared on social media were those of the accused.

BJP state president Vijay Sampla blamed the Congress government in the state for the rising crime. “People are in panic because of frequent murders. Anti-social elements are active. The Congress needs to ensure peace and harmony in Punjab. I have requested chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh for a meeting on law and order,” Sampla said.

Amritsar Congress MP Gurjit Singh Aujla also called on Sharma’s family and blamed “foreign agencies” for creating differences between Hindu and Sikh communities.

“I appeal for peace. The state government is in touch with the police. The accused will be behind bars soon. We will provide all help to the children of the deceased,” he said.
