Akal Takht jathedar opens bathing ghats for public

A day before first Sikh guru Nanak Dev's birth anniversary, Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Saturday opened the ghats (bathing places) constructed by environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal along the banks of Kali Bein behind the historic Gurdwara Ber Sahib, for public.

Addressing the gathering, the jathedar applauded the efforts of Seechewal in improving the conditions of Kali Bein, and later planted saplings on the banks of the rivulet.

"For the first time, pilgrims will be able to bathe in the ghats. The sangat has toiled to complete the project assigned to me by the Akal Takht. The work, which was started in November last year and done in two phases, has been completed in time," said Seechewal.

Seechewal, the jathedar and cabinet minister Ajit Singh Kohar took a round of Kali Bein from Gurdwara Sant Ghat to Gurdwara Ber Sahib on a boat.
