Akali councillor arrested for running gambling racket from his house
The local police have arrested an Akali councillor for running a gambling racket from his house besides arresting six others. The police also seized Rs 11.34 lakh along with 10 boxes of liquor from the house of Surinder Kumar, councillor of Ward No 56.

The police claimed that working on a tip-off, a police party led by ACP Harjit Singh raided the house near Jwala Flour Mills on Monday night.
The police had to wait for more than two hours to get hold of the councillor, as he along with a few others locked himself inside a room.
More police force was summoned before the police were able to go inside the room. From there the police recovered the money and liquor. Later, the police called a few local representatives and counted the money in front of them. The police claimed that the entire process was videographed.
Police commissioner Ram Singh told HT, "There was a specific information that gambling was going on in the house of Surinder Kumar. Following this, a team raided the house in the local Islamabad area."
A case was registered against the seven under the Gambling Act and they were later released on bail.
The other arrested are Rajesh Bajaj, Suresh Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Pardeep Kumar, Deepak Kumar and Pardeep Kumar.
