Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said the Lok Sabha election would prove to be Congress’s nemesis as it would be completely wiped out this time.
Talking to mediapersons after inaugurating the election office of BJP candidate Vijay Sampla in the town, the chief minister said defeat was staring at all Congress stalwarts in Punjab.
“All Congress leaders, be it Capt Amarinder, Ambika Soni or Partap Bajwa, will face humiliating defeat in the election,” he said. “Chona ton baad tuhanu Congress kitte ni labhni (After elections, you won’t find Congress anywhere).
When asked about SAD ( Longowal) support to the Congress in the upcoming elections, Badal said the party was represented by Surjit Singh Barnala family only. “Their support does not count at all. This man (Barnala) should have thought about what I did for him. I moved aside to let him become the state chief minister. But now there are no morals left,” he said.
He also dismissed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) effect on elections in the state. He said he had so far not been asked to campaign for Modi.
“No, I have not received any such request but Modi Ji doesn’t need my support. In fact, he himself does not need to go to his constituencies for campaigning as he has already won,” he said.
Earlier, addressing a rally in Chabbewal in favour of Sampla organised by chief parliamentary secretary Sohan Singh Thandal, Badal announced that the MLA or ‘halqa’ in charge, who secures maximum lead for the candidate, would be awarded a gold medal.
“Once Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister, deve lopmen t projects would rain in Punjab,” he claimed. He congratulated Sampla in advance stating that he would win with maximum margin.
“Congress has not dared to project anyone as prime ministerial candidate— not even Rahul Gandhi, as they know his political career would be finished that after his defeat,” he added.
