Even as the Punjab government continues to portray a rosy picture of Amritsar, an offensive local MP Navjot Singh Sidhu took a whirlwind tour of his dream projects that remain dead and buried, to show the real face.
Sidhu, who had been accusing the State government of scuttling his projects with an attempt to 'demean' him, visited the garbage heaps near Grain Market, foundation stone laid for much hyped City Bus service and multipurpose sports complex. They all for which Sidhu had been raising voice and accusing the state government were in utter state of neglect.
There were garbage heaps at the location for sports complex, neglected building at the proposed city bus terminal and tonnes of garbage near grain market, for which Sidhu had raised the issue of Solid Waste management.
Looking at the foundation stones that have been waiting for over two years for work to start, Sidhu said, "Is this the real face of Amritsar. It's been over two years when these foundation stones were laid. Money is there with the Improvement Trust but yet an inch has not moved. What is the point announcing Rs. 2000 crores when the government is sleeping over these foundation stones?"
Even Deputy Chief Minister was here when these foundation stones were laid, I don't understand how these are forgotten, he added.
"Not only these things. Where are the PODS, The Bhandari Bridge widening, CCTV's. If they (Government) want to demean me, they can but if they want to demean Amritsar to show me down, I will not allow that to happen," he added.
Taking a dig at the government, Sidhu said, "It is pathetic state of affairs. We cannot just keep on making promises and forget the previous ones. Government has not started them and is now busy portraying rosy picture by making more announcements, he added.
As Sidhu, reached the grain market, the local residents gathered there and requested him to fight for the issue. Residents who narrated their woes to Sidhu also walked along him to the garbage heaps.
"There are some faces who have scuttled my projects but my fight is on. I am with you and will repeatedly raise my voice for you people. It is not against my government. Amritsar is above all parties, Sidhu told the residents at the Grain market," Sidhu claimed.
Stressing that he would continue raising his voice said, "In the war of right and wrong, you cannot afford to be neutral. And Sidhu is not in neutral, Sidhu is in top gear."
