VB deputy superintendent of police Navjot Singh Sandhu said they laid the trap to catch the cop red-handed on the complaint of a Tarn Taran resident. The complainant, Kartar Singh of Guru Nanak Colony in Tarn Taran, told the VB that he bought a motorcycle from one Baljit Singh for Rs 60,000.
A few days later, Baljit’s brother-in-law Kulbir Singh, who was also known to the complainant, allegedly urged Kartar to lend him the bike for some urgent work but did not return it. When the victim lodged a complaint at the Chheharta police post, ASI Sahib Singh allegedly sought Rs 30,000 for settling the dispute. Finally, the deal was struck at Rs 25,000, following which Kartar approached the VB.
The VB team raided the post when the cop was taking the money and nabbed him in the presence of public witnesses Deepinderpal Singh and Rajesh Khanna. A case has also been registered against him. VB senior superintendent of police Ravinder Kumar Bakhshi said people should come forward to help the bureau nab such corrupt officers and weed out graft from all government departments.
