Barnala tops Faridkot division in wheat lifting, clearing payment

Barnala, a part of the Patiala administrative division, is mapped with the Ferozepur division with respect to functioning of the department of civil supplies and consumer affairs.

Up to Friday evening, other districts of Faridkot division were far behind Barnala in lifting and making payment for the procured wheat. Faridkot has lifted 34% and paid for 38% of the procured wheat, whereas Bathinda lifted 40% and paid for 78%; Mansa lifted 42% and paid for 64%.

Deputy commissioner GS Sidhu said, "As of Friday, 3.61 lakh MT wheat has arrived in markets and agencies have procured 3.53 lakh MT wheat out of it. A total of 1.65 lakh MT wheat has been lifted and payment of Rs 383 crore been made.

"We are able to achieve respectable figures with our teamwork. We held meetings with transporters, labourers and officials. We frequented grain markets. We are striving for even faster lifting and payments," Sidhu added.

Sweety Devgun, district controller, and RK Singla, deputy director, department of food civil supplies and consumer affairs, could not contacted despite repeated attempts.
