Blast in Barotiwala factory leaves three injured

At least three workers were injured, one of them seriously, after a blast in the furnace of an iron and steel factory at Damowala village in Industrial Estate, Barotiwala, on Monday night.

The victims were identified as Munna, Sanjeet Kumar and Jagmohan. They were rushed to a private hospital where doctors referred Sanjeet to Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the blast occurred in the furnace of Munkut Iron and Steel Industry when night shift workers were on duty.

A case under sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the factory's management.
