Canadian MP visits alma mater in Punjab village
Canadian Member of Parliament (MP) Jinny Sims alias Joginder Kaur visited her alma mater in Pabwan village near here on Tuesday.
Addressing a gathering at the Government Elementary School at Pabwan, she said she is very happy to come here as she had completed her primary education from this school in the 1960s. She expressed satisfaction over the improvement in the condition of the school, saying when she last visited the school in 1984, a portion of it used to be a cattle shed for goats.
Observing that education is the most honoured profession in the world, the MP said that education opens every door of development for both men and women and advised children to study without any pressure.
Joginder Kaur said that she discussed the issue of elementary and inter-mediate schools in Punjab with Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal who agreed that there is need for investment in these schools.
She expressed deep concern over the use of drugs in Punjab and urged the people to fight collectively against this menace.
Joginder Kaur Sims, who was born in Pabwan village, had migrated to Britain from where she finally shifted to Canada and got settled there. She was elected an MP from Newtown North Delta.
