Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra said the Congress led central government is working against the federal structure by bullying states on the name of stopping grants.
Taking strong exception, Chandumjara condemned the central government's statement that it would stop grants for running 108 ambulance services, if the government fails to remove the picture of CM Parkash Singh Badal from amblunace vehicles.
"Its an act against the federal structure and democracy. The central government is run by collecting funds from the public from all over the states. So, it can't tax money to settle political scores with states being run by political opponent parties. It will sour the centre's relations with the state, as was the situation before militancy. Thus UPA government must take corrective measures," said Chandumajra.
He said when the voters of Punjab elected Badal for the fifth time as CM, then why is his photo still pasted on the ambulances running in the state of Punjab. The central decision is against the spirit of democracy and against the wishes of the Punjab voters, he contended.
He blamed the state leadership of Congress for this act, and said as Congress is losing its stronghold in Punjab, thus the the state leadership of Congress is pressurising the centre to stop all grants to Punjab.
