Chandigarh, Haryana declare holiday on April 19 to mark Mahavir Jayanti

Earlier, April 20 was to be observed as holiday

The Haryana government and UT administration have declared April 19 a public holiday on the account of Mahavir Jayanti. The public holiday will be applicable in government offices, boards, schools (both government and private), corporations and institutions under the Haryana government and Chandigarh administration and also within the meaning of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881. Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, is the most important religious holiday for Jains.
