Chandigarh: Taxi driver held for molesting college girl

The victim was sitting next to the cab driver and after she was left alone in the cab, the accused tried to take advantage of her and started driving the car slowly while touching her.

A 32-year-old cab driver was arrested for molesting a passenger who was returning from Delhi on Tuesday night.

The accused has been identified as Narinder Kundu of Barwala. He was arrested on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody.

The victim, a 22-year-old postgraduate student at a local college, had gone to Delhi abto enquire out coaching classes and had taken a shared cab on her way back to Chandigarh.

There were half a dozen other passengers in the cab, who got off near the Hallomajra light point. The woman had to get off at Tribune Chowk, where another Uber cab was waiting for her.

“The victim was sitting next to the driver. As she was left alone in the cab, the accused tried to take advantage of her and started driving the car slowly while touching her legs,” said Sector-31 station house officer (SHO) Gurjit Kaur.

As soon as the victim got off the car, she called her family members, who reached the spot. Meanwhile, the driver fled, but was later arrested. He has been booked under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Manimajra youth held for trespass, molesting girl

Chandigarh: Police arrested a 20-year-old youth for house trespass and molesting an 18-year-old girl in Manimajra on Wednesday.

Identified as Amir, he is unemployed and was allegedly troubling the girl for the past one month.

The victim, who is presently studying in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, is staying at her maternal uncle’s house in Manimajra while pursuing a month-long course here.

“On Tuesday, Amir again misbehaved with the girl and threatened her, following which she lodged a complaint,” said Manimajra station house officer (SHO) Ranjit Singh. “Earlier, he had also entered her house.”

Amir has been booked under Sections 341(wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with an intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 452(house trespass after preparation for hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has been sent to judicial custody.
