The residents had warned the civic authorities that if the latter failed to take action they would hold a protest in this regard.

During the raid, MC health officer Yadwinder Singh Banga imposed fine on seven offenders.

District health officer, Dr Harsh Malhotra collected four samples from samples from fish kiosks.

The health officials warned the kiosk owners that if the samples failed they would impose heavy penalties on the offenders.

The authorities also threatened the vendors that they would conduct raids in future as well.

However, the locals rued that due to civic authorities' apathy, the illegal fish market continued to mushroom in the area and unhygienic conditions were prevalent in the entire surroundings.

Meanwhile, the authorities maintained that though a special fish market at the jail road had been set up and the kiosks had been allotted space in it but still they were still using the factory area as a local 'mandi'.
