As many as 22 university and college teachers of various disciplines from all over India participated in the refresher course.
In his valedictory, chief guest GNDU vice-chancellor Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar threw light on various flaws crippling the educational system in India with special reference to the higher education.
He also elaborated upon the benefits and utilities of the semester system, credit-based grading system, which was followed in the educational institutes of the developed countries. He advised the teachers to accept these changes readily, as theses would go a long way in further improving the quality of education.
While talking about the environmental degradation, Prof Brar emphasised by changing the simple habits in our daily life a lot could be done to preserve the environment for the generations to come. He also expressed his concern over the decline of basic sciences and deterioration in the quality of research in comparison with the developed countries.
He further said one of the principle aims of these courses by the ASC was to galvanise, energise and enthuse the teaching community to ponder over issues relating to the higher education.
Giving a brief account of the proceedings of the last three weeks, Prof Renu Bhardwaj, department of botanical and environmental sciences and also the course coordinator, expressed hope that the participants would have met their aspirations and enhanced their existing knowledge by interacting with renowned academicians and experts.
On this occasion, Satwinderjit Kaur of the department proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, director of the ASC, welcomed the vice-chancellor and others. He also congratulated the participants at the successful completion of the course and asked them to incorporate the knowledge in the classroom teaching.
