The protesters asked the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker to disqualify the cabinet minister, who faces the charges of registering as a voter from two places.

Karamjit Singh Rintu, a Congress leader, said, "The Punjab government should withdraw the cabinet powers of Anil Joshi with immediate effect so that investigations done by the Election Commission of India are not influenced in any way."

Congress' Ranjit Avenue block vice-president Sandeep Shah said the minister was accused of making fake votes in his constituency. Many people of the constituency want action against Joshi, they said.
