Sources close to Arora told HT that he has resigned from this post as he was not happy with the party's decision of giving important positions to the Congress leaders, who played a key role in the party's debacle in the last assembly polls.

Arora had unsuccessfully contested the last assembly election from Sunam against Parminder Dhindsa of Shiromani Akali Dal.

When contacted, Arora said by resigning from his position as a member of the executive committee, he had followed the party's directions on one-man, one-post as he was also a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

On Friday, the Congress had announced Punjab office-bearers and chiefs of district Congress committees.
