Senior party leader and MLA from Lehragaga assembly, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal had already declared that she will not attend the rally. Other leaders joined her in this endeavor despite Amarinder's show of strength at the lunch meet at his residence earlier this month.

"We did not attend the rally as there were no instructions from the party's senior leadership," said Congress's district president Roop Kaur Bagrian.

When asked, whether any leader from the district unit had attended the rally, he said that they had not asked anybody to boycott the rally and that all leaders were free to go to the rally.

Former MLA and vice-president of PPCC Surinderpal Sibia also claimed to have given the rally a miss due to lack of instructions from the senior leaders.
