Tragedy ahead of festive season: Cracker godown blaze kills four in Punjab’s Sangrur

At least four people were killed and three others injured when a firecracker godown caught fire in Sular Gharat village in Sangrur on Tuesday.

The fire started around 9 pm. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “It’s a private godown and situated in a residential area near a gurdwara. The fire resulted in a blast due to which the ceiling of the structure collapsed. Four people (all workers) have been killed. The rescue operation is on,” said Sangrur SSP Mandeep Sidhu.

The reason of fire could not be ascertained. “It was private godown and situated in residential area near Gurdwara. The blast took place in two storage building. The death of 4 people is confirmed and one more is suspected. The rescue operation is on” said SSP Sidhu.

Deputy commissioner APS Virk said a probe has been ordered into the incident. Chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh condoled the death of workers.
