The management of the local DAV College of Education has refuted the charge that it took donations from SC students for their admission.
It also claimed that the post-matric scholarship scheme for scheduled caste students was being implemented in toto.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, college managing committee president Dr Anoop Kumar, denying the charges, said that SC students are required to pay Rs 40,000 in two instalments and this amount is reimbursed and deposited in the bank accounts of each student.
"They have received the first instalment and the second one is due during this month. In addition, maintenance allowance of Rs 3,600 would also be deposited in their accounts", he claimed.
He said that as per law, the institution was mandated to allot 25% seats to the SC category students whereas it admitted many more.
The Association of Volunteers for Student Rights had alleged that BEd students of the SC category were made to pay Rs 30,000 each but receipts were given only for Rs 20,000 and the rest of the amount was taken as donation.
Dr Anoop said that the management had clarified its position to the state SC commission members who had sought a reply on this issue.
