The authorities have set up the cameras after the recent minor rape incident, which happened in a government school here on July 5.
Talking to the Hindustan Times the school principal Barjinder Kaur said, “Keeping in mind the strength of the students, which is 978, the authorities have installed six CCTV cameras in the corridors, near toilets, laboratories, basement, so as to keep a check on them and the staff members. I, myself keep a tab on what is happening in the campus.”

Kaur added, “The recent minor’s rape case has shaken us, so we decided to install the cameras in our school.”
Pawan Kumar, a student’s parent said, “This is a good step taken by the school authorities towards the safety of the students and staff. This will help the authorities to keep a tab on things.”

Meanwhile, a headmistress of another government school, on conditions of anonymity, said, “There is a need to keep an eye on students thus we are also planning to install CCTV cameras in our school for security purpose.”

However, the Government Senior Secondary School near Rekhi Cinema Road was the first government school in the district to install CCTV cameras in 2013.
