In a shameful incident, a government schoolteacher was caught in inebriated state at the government high school at Mahamadpur village in Sangrur district.
The teacher, identified as Surinderpal Singh, was taking a class when he was apprehended by district education officer (DEO) Nirmal Singh Sohi and his team.
The DEO said he along with his team visited the school premises on Wednesday morning to carry out inquiry over some issue of the school management committee.
He added when they went to one of the classrooms to see Surinderpal, who is also school in-charge, he was found inebriated state.
"The teacher has admitted in writing that he was under influence of alcohol," Sohi said, adding that other members of the school committee and other fellow colleagues were present there.
The teacher was immediately handed over to police for his medical examination.
"The director general of school education has been informed about the incidence and medical reports of the teacher were also sent to senior officials. Besides, a strict action has been recommended against him," he said.
