Dr Karanjit Singh takes over as health services dir

Dr Karanjit Singh has taken over as the new director, health services, Punjab, after Dr Ashok Nayyar retired on November 30. Dr Singh was currently serving on the post of director, family welfare, and had served at various key positions like registrar of government medical college, Amritsar.

Among his priorities areas are the issues related to implementation of Infant Death Review, reduction in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), establishment of newborn care and stabilisation units and improvement of sex-ratio in the state.

Meanwhile, Dr Jatinder Kaur, principal, State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Phase 6, SAS Nagar, has taken over as director, family welfare, Punjab, in addition to the post of principal of SIHFW. She had served at GMSH, Sector 16, Chandigarh, as a senior gynaecologist. She had also remained medical superintendent of Mata Kaushalaya Hospital, Patiala, and thereafter civil surgeon of Patiala and Ajitgarh districts.
