Engine separates from Amritsar bound train on Damoria bridge

Panic spread among passengers after the coaches of a diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) from Ambala to Amritsar (train number 74645) uncoupled from its engine on Damoria Bridge on Sunday.As per eyewitnesses, the train suddenly stopped over the bridge after leaving the Ludhiana railway station at 6:20pm, sending the train’s boarding staff into a tizzy. The reason for the technical glitch could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. The train was later taken back to the Ludhiana railway station at 7:15pm, cancelling the journey of the passengers, leaving them disgruntled.

A passenger, Surendra Kumar, who boarded the train from Ambala station said, “The engine separated from the rest of the coaches, bringing the train to a halt. It remains unclear how the coaches uncoupled. But, it has certainly caused the passengers great inconvenience. I will have to look for some other mode of conveyance now to reach Amritsar.”

Deputy station superintendent Hari Prasad said, “The DEMU developed some problem and was brought back to the station. The exact reason behind the incident can be ascertained after inspection only.”
