‘Facebook friend’ booked for raping girl in Patiala

A married man was accused of raping a minor in Patiala on Monday after befriending her on social network, Facebook. The accused was identified as Jagsir Singh, a resident of Longowal, Sangrur district.

He met the victim through Facebook a few months ago and had been in regular touch with her. As the accused visited Patiala to meet her last week, he allegedly gave her drugs in a soft drink. She was then taken to an unidentified place where she was allegedly raped, said the local police.

Police have charged the accused under sections 363-A (kidnapping),366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her mar¬riage etc), 376 (rape),328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 442 (punishment for wrongful confinement, 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). The accused is also booked under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

GS Sikand, station house officer of the civil lines police station, said that the accused would be arrested soon as initial investigation was on.
