Father-son held for assaulting doctor

Police have identified and arrested the accused for assaulting Dr Davinder Kumar of Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital near Chand Cinema on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Narinder Singh (45) of Haibowal and his son Harsh (22).

The accused assaulted the doctor for splashing muddy water on them with his car on Saturday. A case under sections 341, 323, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered in this context.

Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Specialists Doctors Association had asked the police to arrest the accused within 48 hours. The association had also threatened to strike if no arrest was made.

In his complaint, Dr Davinder Kumar, an orthopaedician, stated that he and his son were on their way to Mohalla Fatehgarh in a car.

As they reached near Chand Cinema, two men on a motorcycle intercepted them, forcing him to stop. When he got off the car, the duo started thrashing him, claiming that he had splashed water on them with his car.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jaspal Singh said the police had the registration number of the accused's bike and traced them by tracing the number of the vehicle.
