However, assistant sub-inspector Pritpal Singh said they registered the case on their own after receiving information of the incident.

The police came to know that the accused - Jagseer Singh of Amritsar, Taranveer Singh of Baba Buddha, Gurbhej Singh and Iqbal Singh of Tarn Taran, and Daljit Singh of Bhulath in Kapurthala, had got into an argument with Harmel on a WhatsApp group on August 11. The accused had come to Tharike to settle score with him.

A case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.
