Confirming this to HT, Avinash said this was decided after his recent meeting with Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh.

Notably, former Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh and Amritsar East ex-MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu are also scheduled to join the Congress on the same day.

Avinash, a former chief parliamentary secretary(CPS), resigned from the SAD on November 8 after he was denied party ticket. He has also resigned as an MLA. However, his resignation is yet to be accepted by the Vidhan Sabha Speaker.

He will be the second SAD MLA to join the Congress after Kartarpur MLA Sarwan Singh Phillaur.

Sources said Avinash is now eyeing the Congress ticket from Adampur assembly seat.
